One year ago, a boy was using a dating app at work. He saw the beautifulest lady in the world, and was hesitant about swiping right. "She probably will not even look at my profile", he reasoned in his head. Nevertheless, the lady was too perfect, and the boy had to take his chance. Halfway across the country, the lady decided to trust a dating app for once and find out what would happen if she matched the boy on the other end. With that simple leap of faith, here we are, one year later.
On the day we matched, we chatted heartily about our daily affairs and stories of the past. I remember myself grinning from ear to ear on the MRT as I was texting you on the way to dinner. (at JEM 4Fingers HAHA IDK why but I remember that day so clearly) Our conversations were great and I felt very comfortable with you. However, after my sumptuous meal of 20 chicken drumlets/winglets, you stopped replying. I was pretty saddened, we've had a good chat and I felt really comfortable with you.
I remember me sleeping early that night so I could wake up to watch football at 4am. When my alarm rang at 4am, I was pleasantly surprised to see the new notifications from you. You explained that you were studying till late and I was so surprised that you would be still up at 4am! Texting you made me so happy that I actually found the motivation to start writing some code for the software engineering module I was taking then!.
A few days ago I actually downloaded CMB again to try to get our messages back. As both of us deleted our accounts together, the attempt clearly ended in failure. While there is a slight tinge of regret that I did not have the foresight to save our first one and a half days of conversations, I know that we will be continuing to create new memories together every day for the rest of our lives.
The boy in the beginning of this letter has grown into a better person, and that is because the lady was willing to give him a chance to nurture him and grow with him. Thank you for always loving me, and always pushing me to be a better version of myself. The Nelson sitting in that office one year ago, hunched over his phone on a dating app, would have never thought that that would have led him to this day, where he has the best girlfriend in the world. I love you dear and here is to infinitely more years together ❤️
